ENP-Essential Nutrition Pack

Each Essential Nutrition Pack contains 30 on-the-go packets which contain magnesium (2 capsules), fish oil (2 softgels), Vitamin D3 (2 softgels) and a multivitamin (1 tablet).  This pack was designed to provide a solid nutritional foundation for patients and is most effective when used with the dietary recommendations in the Nutritional Foundation Brochure.

Research continually supports the need to bolster a healthy diet with nutritional supplements to promote health and prevent disease. Inflammation reduction, antioxidant protection and cellular health are mechanisms of many supplement products. The following supplements are recommended to promote a healthy inflammatory response and support specific nutritional needs.

Research

Ames BN. Low micronutrient intake may accelerate the degenerative diseases of aging through allocation of scarce micronutrients by triage. Proc Nat Acad Sci. 2006;103(47):17589-94.
Dr. Ames presents a “triage” theory for why subclinical deficiencies in micronutrients accelerate cancer, aging, and late onset diseases, while critical metabolic functions are left intact during the years preceding disease onset. Supplements discussed: multivitamins, lipoic acid, acetyl-L-carnitine, magnesium, vitamin D, fish oil, and fiber.
Ford ES, Mokdad AH. Dietary magnesium intake in a national sample of US adults. J Nutr. 2003;133:2879-82.
This study assessed the intake of magnesium among White, Black, and Hispanic men and women in America. It was determined that all groups consume less than the RDA for magnesium. Health implications are listed by the authors.
Harris WS. Fish oil supplementation: evidence for health benefits. Cleve Clin J Med. 2004;71(3):208-21.
This is an excellent article on the clinical utility and safety of fish oil supplements. Dr. Harris also explains that there is essentially no mercury or other pollutants in fish oil. He also explains that triglyceride and ethyl ester forms of omega-3s are equally absorbed. This paper includes tables of values for omega-3 fatty acids found in fish, fish oil, and seeds/nuts/legumes.
Cannell JJ, Hollis BW. Use of vitamin D in clinical practice. Alt Med Rev. 2008;13(1):6-20.
This is an extremely useful review article on vitamin D. The multiple conditions that may develop due to vitamin D deficiency are described. Supplementation amounts for all age groups and special populations are outlined.
